Juror's Statement:
It was a special pleasure to be the judge for the Watercolor 2017 exhibit at Framations today , because the entries reinforced my belief that the arts represent  the basic  foundation for all of the rest of the learning in the world.  The entries prove that belief  and speak from the mind of the artists directly to the world we live in today.   I hope the observers will try to imagine the conversation of the  "Confab" ,  recognize the possible thoughts in the "Pensive" look, and find a peaceful connection with the past at Santa Maria Agradille. The moonlit drama in the landscapes and the affection in each portrait takes us into our own families, even if the painting before us is someone we've never met.  And the ever present "bee"we depend on reminds us of the value of the plants and flowers we all love to grow,  see, eat and paint.  I am proud to be part of the widespread art community in this area and share the expressions painted and shared in local exhibits.  Best wishes to each artist and keep creating!  Thanks to Framations for inviting me to participate.  ~ Juror Elizabeth Concannon

About the Juror:
St. Louis artist Elizabeth Concannon is primarily self-taught, but has also participated in workshops with teachers Carole Barnes, Gerald Brommer, and Ed Reep. She belongs to a group of artists who share working space, news, critiques and plans for exhibits. Although early in her career she worked mainly in oils, Concannon now paints in watermedia, including transparent watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and watercolor pencils, often including collage as well.  She also creates most of her own collage materials – from painted papers to handmade paper to written images – and frequently uses other exquisite papers. Having been an artist for more than 30 years, Concannon describes her style as semiabstract and her content as philosophical or symbolic. She likes to combine the spatial aspects of art with the art of words and storytelling.
