"Surreality" - Paintings by Robert McElyea
On Display: June 8 - July 12, 2018

Artist's Statement:

I do not paint to illustrate a theory, but to express what I see, remember, and imagine.  Sometimes I combine all three elements in my work.  In several pieces I try to suggest dreamlike qualities either in atmosphere or in unusual objects such as globular structures, which lead to questions as to their meaning.  But I try to insure that the familiar such as the landscape  draws  the viewer's attention as well.  Fields, wooded hills, and panoramic views are the grandeur of life that I try to convey.

As the title of the exhibit, "Surreality", suggests dreaminess can be tethered to reassuring reality.
