Saint Charles Plein Air Exhibition 2008-2010
Exhibition Dates: September 11 - November 7, 2010

This art exhibition featured works created during the 2008, 2009 and 2010 St Charles Plein Air Painting Competition sponsored by the St Charles Riverfront Arts

The term Plein Air is French for “in the open air”. Competitions such as this encourage artists to paint outdoors in areas that not only are picturesque but also encourage the public to become engaged in their process of painting. As the oldest city on the Missouri River, Saint Charles is known for its rich heritage. This includes being the First State Capitol, the departure point for the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and home to restored 200 year old buildings along Historic Main Street and in the Frenchtown District. Each year, artists had 10 days to complete their works of art, which must be created completely on site, outdoors within the designated boundaries surrounding the Historic Districts. Artists were also encouraged to participated in the scheduled "Quick Paint" competitions where they were tasked to complete a painting within three hours at the designated locations.

More than 30 artists participated in the 2010 St. Charles Plein Air Competition. Framations Art Gallery hosted an exhibit of many of the works created during the 2010 competition. In addition, artists were able to exhibit works created during the 2008 and 2009 competitions.
