Juror's Statement:  First and Foremost, I would like to thank Sarah and Amy for inviting me to jury Worth Repeating II, and to extend my sincere gratitude to the artists who submitted work for consideration. Though I’ve been a curator for nearly two decades, my professional experience has generally encompassed executing solo exhibitions. Thus, it is always a special privilege to examine and jury a group of diverse artists and media for inclusion in the same show.

This show’s theme presents an interesting challenge. Repetition involves repeating something that has already been said or written. How does an artist create something with a unique, compelling point of view while also producing something that fits within the theme? The artists here rose to that challenge. Not only do the artists demonstrate a solid grasp of the materials and processes utilized, but they have created works with compelling points of view.

Further, the artists I’ve chosen for awards and honorable mentions (not an easy decision at all, and I wished many times for more award slots) really took the theme and dove deeper into the act of repetition. Silent Prayers: Quest for Mark Making, the first place winner, showcases excellent skill the artist possesses, but also a very nuanced and thoughtful approach to the theme that was quite impressive.

A hearty round of applause to all of the artists, and congratulations to the award winners, whose work left a special impression during this process.    Jessica Mannisi - Art & Exhibitions, Foundry Art Centre
